Tequila is one of the cleanest spirits a low-carb drinker can pour. Most expressions clock in at zero or near-zero carbs and around 95–100 calories per 1.5oz shot, which means the differentiator is rarely macros — it’s quality, distillation, and what the bottle adds to the glass beyond ABV.
We track 94 tequilas in the DrinkLeader catalog. The list below is the top-10 score-ranked picks with brand diversity enforced (max two bottles per producer) so it reads as a buyable shortlist. For the full live ranking, see Best Tequila Drinks.
How DrinkLeader scores tequila
Spirit scores reward usable ABV in a sensible serving size and penalize carb load. Since most tequila comes in at zero carbs, the spread between the picks below is driven by efficiency — the same factor that ranks a 40% sipping reposado higher than a watered-down 30% liqueur. Highest scores tend to cluster around clean, well-distilled blanco and reposado expressions.

How to shop tequila for the macros
- Stick to 100% agave. “Mixto” tequilas dilute the spirit with grain alcohol and often add sugar.
- Blanco and reposado over añejo for mixers. Save the aged expressions for sipping where their cost makes sense.
- Skip flavored tequilas if you’re counting carbs. Coconut, lime, and strawberry variants usually carry added sugar.
