Wine is one of the trickier categories for low-carb drinkers. A glass of dry red can come in at under 4g of carbs, but a single pour of a sweeter or off-dry style can blow past 10g. Without the macros printed on the bottle, it is genuinely hard to shop the shelf if you’re tracking carbs.
We track 222 wines in the DrinkLeader catalog. The picks below are the ten lowest-carb wines in the catalog that also score competitively. Brand diversity is enforced (max two bottles per producer) so the list reads as a buyable shopping plan. Want the live ranking? See Lowest-Carb Wines.
What makes a wine “low-carb”
Carb count in wine comes almost entirely from residual sugar — the unfermented sugar left behind when fermentation is stopped. Bone-dry styles (most Cabernet, Sauvignon Blanc, Brut Champagne) push the sugar nearly to zero. Off-dry, fruit-forward, and sparkling sweet styles can push 6g+ per glass. The cans, boxes, and bottles below cluster at the dry end and stay well under 4g per serving.

What to look for at the wine shop
- “Dry” on the front label is your friend. Brut is dryer than Extra Dry (yes, really), and Cabernet beats Merlot on average for carbs.
- Avoid “semi-sweet,” “moscato,” and “riesling” unless they’re explicitly labeled dry.
- Watch serving size. Wine macros are quoted per 5oz glass — a generous 8oz pour scales linearly.
